What is SM Stage Crew?

Servants of the Messiah Stage Crew is a home based business providing sound, minor lighting, and stage crew services to Litchfield and the surrounding communities of southern Illinois.

SM Stage Crew is owned, and managed by Sam Hampton.

SM Stage Crew provides opportunites for Jr. High through college students to:

1. Learn some of the basics of sound and lighting systems and their uses for small events and live theatre.
2. Some events would get students involved in the performing arts in their community, or at least a community around them.
3. Helps build teamwork skills among group members.
4. Provides a great opportunity for volunteer experience, even though it does not yet count as community service.
5. Provides a safe extracurricular activity for students.


The goal of SM Stage Crew is to build a close relationship with local schools and theatre groups and get students involved in the arts and off the streets. My goal is for the school districts to in time consider SM Stage Crew as an extracurricular activity that counts for something at school thereby creating another incentive for students to join the stage crew.

Even though SM Stage Crew is not registered as a non-profit, it is our mindset. SM Stage Crew was not started as an attempt to earn a large profit, but instead as a method for promoting the arts in our community and getting students involved, while also providing higher quality performances for those we work for. Bills are of amounts adequate for covering expenses with a little extra for the purchase of new equipment that we will use for future events.



What towns will you work in?

Anywhere within a 40mile straight line radius of Litchfield, IL. (about an hour 15 min max drive, exceptions can be made)



What services do you offer?

Lighting Services:
SM Stage Crew can provide someone to run a small to medium lighting system for anywhere from small one hour events to full musical productions.

SM Stage Crew can provide someone to set-up and tear down a small lighting system for small events.

SM Stage Crew has a small selection of theatre lighting equipment that we can bring with us to an event if needed. (Please email s_m_stagecrew@smstagecrew.org for specific lists of available equipment. Minor rental charges may apply.)


Sound Services:
SM Stage Crew can provide someone to run a small to medium sound system for anywhere from small one hour events to full musical productions.

SM Stage Crew can provide someone to set-up and tear down a small sound system at the beginning and end of a production.

SM Stage Crew can supply sound equipment to be used for small to medium events and in some cases musical productions. (Please email s_m_stagecrew@smstagecrew.org for specific lists of available equipment. Minor rental charges may apply.)


Stage Services:
SM Stage Crew does not yet have a portable stage in any form to bring to your site.

SM Stage Crew can provide a stage manager, stage hands (limited numbers), cast coordinator, a curtain operator, and other minor stage crew roles for your live stage event.



Can anyone besides high school students help you?
Yes, middle school through college students may also volunteer. At times we also gladly accept adult help.

Who all will you work for?
SM Stage Crew is willing to help with events for individuals, groups, organizations, or businesses. We can do birthday parties, weddings, church events, musicals, cantatas, or other events or programs that could use a sound or lighting enhancement.



Other Requirements
Scripts are needed a minimum of two weeks in advance for any parts being filled by SM Stage Crew members. Access to the site of production for examination of the stage and equipment is needed a minimum of four days in advance of final dress rehearsal. (Musicals/Plays)

Every item listed above has its own low fee, costs vary depending on several aspects such as distance from our location, number of people needed, amount of time needed to complete tasks, amount of equipment rented from us, any delays in getting us information resulting in confusion and/or inability to access site when needed, etc. (Musicals/Plays)

All equipment owned by SM Stage Crew must be ran by a member of SM Stage Crew or another individual specifically approved by Sam Hampton.
